Big action across the board this past week - a bunch of crazy catches, finally some big fish, and a solid good fishing wound.
First off, our boy Chris caught a nice finger off the beach in Westport this week. The champion that he is, landed the fish, hooked himself, and then drove to Team Jackal member Ben's house for amputation. Luckily it was a new hook, and they cut below the barb and pushed it through, wrapped it in duct tape and choked down a Zima rocks to ease the pain. At least part of that happened, and he kept the finger.
If you haven't heard the story about by my brother from a few years back, hit him up at the tourney party. He hooked up to a big blue on our boat (w/ Ben) in close off the beach a few years back, brought the fish over the rail, treble stabbed his hand, same time the blue bit and latched onto his knee, while the fish splashed around ripping the hook in his hand, blood splashing everywhere, and the boat drifting towards the jetty and not starting. Epic battle. He had to go to the hospital to get it removed (hook, not fish) which was probably worth the cool scar he has on his knee from the blue
Our other buddy Chandler hit the Race last weekend - (thanks for the invite) - and slayed some bass. Received a few texts of him crushing multiple 40 inchers on live macks while some other boats trolling couldn't hook up at all. He sent this pic while he was out there. He better get his ass - and his sweet 31 ft Contender in the Headhunt this year.

Then tourney all star, Busch Light spokesman and all around harvester of the ocean Tria sent this pic of a 25 lb slob he got on topwater over the weekend in Rhody. Corner Dave sometime and ask him how tough life is when he has every grandfathered fishing license known to man, fishes every day before work off his boat in his front yard, and makes his own lures. The spooks he makes have put a Headhunt fish on the board a couple years - and at one point he even donated a few lures to the prize packages which for some unknown reason stopped last year (hint).
Lastly, what the hell is up with a 45 inch red fish caught off the Cape beach this week? On the Water has an article here - this is crazy. Maybe we should switch the Headhunt this year to be Redfish only - Harwich Redhunt? Not funny. I know. Either way, pretty interesting to see and as the water continues to warm maybe we'll benefit from more strange in coming years.
My own catch this past weekend was pretty good. About a 6 inch eel under a rock in a tide pool that I caught with my kids. First eel we've caught and kids had a blast catching crabs all night until we all enjoyed the beautiful sunset.
