Pre-Fishing with the 06 Champ

Two weeks to go!!!!!!!!!!!!   Two weeks to go and I/we actually had a chance to get out on the rips this past saturday.  Spent what maybe could have been too pretty of a day south of monomoy north of nantucket and all sorts of spots east and west in between.  We cruised with 3rd annual HEADHUNT winner Mick Carrier who was a fantastic Captain and friend who fought hard to get us a few sweet fish on what was a tough day of fishing.  Ben Allen and Ryan Burke jigged the screaming Banshee jigs long and hard with little success when Mick and I decided to step in for a few minutes of jig mastery.  I grabbed the rod from Ben and worked the short/smooth/quick strokes that I had to teach my many customers during my one long summer way back working as a mate and punching bag for R.I.’s famous Capt. Al Anderson.  How long did it take me again to hook up Ryan? Ben?  I know Mick knows, but I will not rub it in as hauling in the biggest fish of the day was almost as fun as getting the opportunity to “ride” my brother and my great friend Ben for the next few hours. It was flat calm most of the day and there were even a few ladies out on the water, but the tides were slow and the bait and fish were hiding from us as it was for everyone else around us all day.  Fellow Headhunt competitor Capt. Seamus Muldoon was also out today and gave us the same report as our Capt. Mick did saying that they nailed em yesterday with a great group of fish that just did not seem to be around today.Today was also the day before commercial striper season opens and the popular rips were loaded with boats.  Some of our discussion today revolved around the 3 mile limit and how it will effect the tourney this year and the risks people are willing to take to catch the big fish??  We will keep an eye out to see if the “feds” show their muscle over the next couple of weeks during commercial season just to be safe!OKAY!!! Before I go any further!  we need entry fees asap!! It is so much easier to set this thing up if we know what we are dealing with?  We are fine if it is only 10 boats which we know it is already more, yet we need to lock in the slots now to work this thing to the fullest over the next two weeks.  Get your name in the book and on the blog so we can talk the teams up!!SeanThanks again Mick!!

I'll pretend I don't see that fighting belt.

Hairy, good point - he only wore the belt because we wouldn't let him bring the fighting chair he wanted in case we ran into some pogies.

I do look rediculous with the belt and gloves. Mick put that on me while I had the fish on so I blame him. I also take full responsibility for looking like a geared out meat stick

Nice story Cabin Boy.

I particularly like the references to “short/smooth/quick strokes” and “riding” Ryan and I. Hemmingway has nothing on you.

And why no mention of the fact that was THE FIRST STRIPER YOU HAVE CAUGHT ALL YEAR?

Loser.

Team Assquatch is prepared to dominate.

Ps-Mick rules for getting us out there!

On another note, went out with a BC girl last night - cute blonde who is dating (not exclusively) a guy from Deadliest Catch. She is looking to get into the tourney, or get a crew of chicks for the tourney - so if anyone has a ride, or is looking for a charter, let me know.

And in case anyone was wondering...........

That fish Sean is holding with his glove (you will also note that he needed Mick to hold up the tail) brings the Bumbling Burke Brothers number of keepers this year to a grand total of......................one.

Way to go guys!

One.

One keeper all year.

Between the two of them.

Pathetic.

We sold our boat and have been out bass fishing once. One.

You just wait until 7/26, we'll see who has the keepers then Mr. throw random comments from behind the mask of some dumb name I made up. Be a man.

Good point. You certainly can't catch bass from shore. Nope, surf casting never produces.

You have a house that is like 5 feet from some of the best bass fishing waters anywhere on the east coast.

No boat. Good one.

Keep the excuses coming.

Put your money where your mouth is - side bet on the tourney Allen and Snuffy?

Considering our performance on Saturday, a side bet on the biggest fish might be a wee bit presumptuous.

you need to calm down Benoit before we ban you from this tourney!

This only fuels my fire and my desire to take down Ben or Courderoy more than anyone else!

Harry,
Let the meek squabble. The villagers are still looking for their lost "special" sons.

Our guest angler should be more than enough to make others cower in his presence.

Ryan,
I try. It is tough to measure up to Harry and company though.

Am going to give Sean and Ryan another chance before the Headhunt. The "Screamin' Banshee" jig is available at Sunrise. Buy some and see what all the noise is about. The Bossa Nova team is ready to break the curse....again!
