I will most likely be lobbing squid off the shores of Plymouth in the hopes of catching the attention of a 13 inch striper, or spider crab. Chance I make a trip out to the Race on Sunday if the weather holds, but we will see.
Tourney vet Capt Rob will be heading south of the vineyard next week and I may try to sneak a day off to make the trip. I have watched a few videos of the Hyannis Tunafest last weekend and sounds like they lit up the school bft south. May be worth the trip.
With nothing else to report, I'm attaching a few pics from an early morning tuna trip out of Plymouth last year. Left the dock just before sunrise. Weird that a few people were in the parking lot with tripods set up - figured they were there to watch the sunrise. Didn't think we would actually discover alien life, or an X-file. But we did.
What you see is what we saw shooting up into the sky. Not a plane. Straight up. Looking East. Still no clue what it was, and googled any satellite launches or Russian missile attacks but found nothing. I think it's a safe bet we witnessed something we weren't supposed to. But that's what we're about with the Headhunt.
Ask my brother about what he (still claims he) witnessed about 5 years ago the morning of the Headhunt. He started yelling and babbling about something he saw in the sky about 4 am on our way out to the rips. Still no clue what it was, but wind him up at the after party with a scotch and ask him if he's ever seen anything weird at sea - then hit record.
If anyone else has a good story of something weird you've seen - definitely send it in.
Either way - time to get registrations in. Sounds like there are a lot of boats for this year's tourney, but as always they are last minute entries. Get them in so we can order the shirts! Otherwise chance you may have to wait for us to send them out. The days of us getting 500 t-shirts made, only to sell 100, are over.
As always, send any reports in. Saw a pic on FB today of a good size tuna caught by a Chatham charter capt - not sure where but that would be a good sign. Sounds like the rips are still quiet but should be any day.
Stay safe.
