It’s always great to welcome back the great whites to Chatham. I know the media goes crazy about it, but I do think it’s pretty sweet to see that these giants are visiting our local grounds every year, and I’m dying for our own first sighting off of Monomoy. They may be close, but not as close as these tiger sharks wailing on a whale carcass in a couple feet of water on an Australian beach.  Check out the video here
http://usat.ly/MkqIdV - pretty sweet other than the random song the person puts to their video – was that the bogmen?

Either way, we’re less than 30 days to the tourney, and excited about getting out there to do some pre-fishing soon. Sadly, between kiddos, work and other crap, I haven’t been out yet, and just have to read all the killer reports about people catching stripers left and right (even Corduroy), and getting our daily pictures from Team Jackal angler Tria who caught the above 30 lber this morning before work down in RI.  Must be nice.  As I’m typing this I just checked Facebook and saw more pics, now from veteran Headhunt tourney entrant Matt Newman captain of The Menace of Dennis, who posted some beauties and said he got over 25 fish today, on spinning gear, almost all topwater action. I know he’s keeping his boat in Boston until July 1, but will be down come tourney time. Pretty much seems like everyone is out and catching fish other than the founders, and 8 time losers, of the tourney, my brother and I. Somehow we’ll make it happen last minute, so be ready come July 14th.

On the tourney front, things are really shaping up. We hope this is the biggest tourney to date, so spread the word. Again, for only $150 a boat, this is a laid back, fun tournament and we will have some great prizes this year, in addition to the trophies, and the scholarship we will award. Remember, we award a local high school student with a scholarship every year, and I’ll let my brother post more details on that, but if you know a local high school student who has an affinity for the water, let us know and we can talk about the qualification process.

For prizes, we’re excited to have Puma, Goose Hummock and Hammerhead Creatives all contributing again. Big thanks to fellow BC eagle Sara Gottman, Head of International PR for Puma, who every year steps up with some sweet Puma offshore gear from their around the world races.  We also have Mike Macaskill, owner of Goose Hummock, donating some sweet gear from Quantum this year.  If you fish, and have ever been on the Cape, you know that Goose Hummock in Orleans is the best tackle store out there. I tried to register there for my wedding. And also, Heather Jackson at Hammerhead Creatives will be chipping in the cozies you’ve seen the past few years. They’re awesome and Heather and her team do a killer job for any promotional items (t-shirts, bags, stickers, etc.) – def check them out.

We’ll be posting more as we get closer to the tourney, especially now that my brother is done with school. Keep the chatter up, send any reports in, and let us know if you have any questions. And let’s get some more boats in this baby!!

I want to than everyone who came to honor me at the 'King of the Rips' award ceremony last night. Taking home that honor for the 12th straight year never gets old. I'd like to thank the State Police for shutting down rt 28 while the float I was on circled the Land Ho. For me it's not about the prize money, jewelry or female groupies. (although being presented with the el Camino with the striper decal on the side was humbling) its about the kids and the joy on their face when they see a true champion being honored for his greatness, and the humility I show during the photos hoots and autograph sessions. Thanks again for all your support and admiration.

The self proclaimed "king of the rips" may want to take his talents to south beach cause you could have caught a striper on the rips recently like truck drivers catch hemmoroids. Then again if you have hemmoroids being the "king of the rips"isn't a good thing.
