It’s almost go time, and a few more boats are coming in. I think we got 3 more boats in today, so should be close to the numbers we’ve had last year. Some day we’ll blow this puppy wide open but right now we like it smaller, manageable, and with folks who are in it for the right reasons. This isn’t for big money, or different categories, etc. but just for trash talking rights and a good time, and are raising money for a scholarship again this year. Imagine the lucky high school person who walks away with Harwich Headhunt Scholarship recipient on their resume. Might as well be a full ride to Bama to play
football.

Tomorrow night will be some good pre-game festivities – Team Jackal will be at the Hot Stove by around 5, and will try to get out of there early. Last year our RI
teammate convinced our captain they should stay up late drinking and sleep on the boat, and let’s just say that the captain provided his own chum slick on the way out that morning. I’ll be keeping a close eye on my team this year, and will resort to force to get the team to bed early if need be.

On other teams, sounds like Team Powe has some team chemistry issues – again. I hear their fighting about their team name, who is paying what, and who the best fisherman is. I still love hearing the tall tales of the fishing expertise of the crew who pays to charter a boat, brings bananas on the boat, and last year even had a crew member wearing a polo button down. Either way, they’re done before they leave the dock, and that is what the fans really want.

We also have new entry ‘Bad Larry’ out of Osterville. Should be interesting, they have two tourney vets on board (one of whose boats is in the shop) but a rookie captain and a wildcard from Boston. Word is the captain is driving down after a night out in Boston, and has to be back for a family dinner that night – I don’t think he knows what he’s in for.

On the fishing front, sounds like the fishing is pretty hot out there right now, question will be if the size is there. We’ll be out there somewhere between Wildcat, Regal Sword, and the Flemish Cap looking for our winner, and may actually get some pre-fishing in tomorrow. Word is that channel 71 will be tourney channel, so please direct all trash talking chatter to that station. 4 years ago I remember it was great, about 7 tourney boats were stacked up on one rip, fish were everywhere and the trash talking was thick.

Sounds like there could be rain in our forecast, but the tourney will go on. Jake Rooney’s is set up for a great after party and they’ve been awesome in prepping for the tourney and getting us a good spread. Keep in mind, they do this for us on a good deal, so NO drinking your own beers in the parking lot (they’ll lose their license) and be kind to the staff (tip!). Some apps will be provided, but feel free to order off the menu as well.

Should be a good day, and hope to see folks at the Stove tomorrow. We’ll have t-shirts, and maybe cozies, to go around. Let’s do this (and hope that my wife makes it to her due date in a week and a half!)!!

I am feeling it more than ever this year for Team JACKAL.

Who has a definitive plan for Saturday?

Where to go first?

How far should we go to commit to a spot that will most likely not only produce fish but a BIG FISH???

How much do we commit to one spot while the conditions are right and before the sun comes up in full swing???

anyone have any thoughts?

The people that I have talked to in this thing this year seem very curious and more on edge than in past HeadHUNT tournaments.

On the other hand, no one is talking all that much which is cool but I think that it is because we are sort of all in the same boat other than the Lewis brother's, our buddies Ethan and Ben, and the SportBags and a couple of other teams.

Deeper water east of Chatham to start/finish?, the island/s?, and/or the shoals?

any thoughts?

Give it up a bit teams!

It is now officially HeadHUNT tourney time and this is gambling/competition with short money out there for teams but good prize money, prizes, and "rights" on the line.

Talk it some thought/strategies as no one knows exactly the best path but I love hearing other people's thoughts on strategies.

We have a few tips. 1. Don't eat yellow snow. 2. Shit doesn't flow up hill. 3. Never trust a fisherman, especially one in this tourney. I will tell you where the bags will bag there trophy fish. East of the cape, north of florida and south of maine. In 1 to 100 feet of water and around the 8 mile marker. We will be in an orange boat with white stripes in fact we will look like a 69 chevelle with outriggers attached. We will be using live eels, live sushi, poges and gummi worms on the end of a 99 cent burrito from taco bell. We will be cutting up corner store burritos for chum and burgers from the hot stove. We are also equipped to blow the fish out of the water with nukes and stuff them with dominos pizza slices for extra weight at the weigh in. Please don't swamp dominos with deliveries to our location and steal our idea. We know it is an absolute genius idea and all in the headhunt tourney will envy us. Just remember 30 minutes or less or its free! Good luck ladies and by ladies I mean everyone with the last name of Burke.

Team Corduroy had a catastrophic last minute scheduling snafu. We will NOT be attending this year. I know, its kinda like a golf major without Tiger. But often times life gets in the way. Good luck to the remaing boats, may your fish boxes be full and you beers frosty. Once again the Burkes have put together a great day for everyone and I hope you all have a blast. I think this would have been my 6th straight year, but it just can't happen. Right now my money is on the Cape Cod Sports Bags, just sayin'

Sincerely,

Sir Harry
