Please pray for us. This weekend we head into the swamps of New Orleans for a bachelor party. When past Headhunt champion (on a charter boat so everyone relax) said he wanted "to do something we will never do again" for his bachelor party, we didn't know what to do. We researched hunting trips everywhere (who knew most hunting takes place in the fall?), some extreme fishing (some of the posers on the trip were not big fishermen), houseboats in the middle of nowhere (too hard to get to), and reservations at the place from Hostel (sold out). We quickly decided to do a major city to fill us up on the booze, gambling, steakhouse quotient, and then go outside from there.
Once we settled on that, we started researching crazy activities all over the country. We settled on New Orleans, and bow fishing, and hog hunting - we think.
We leave tomorrow am, and found some shady place that will take you into the swamps to shoot redfish (ideally) at night with bows from boats, sleep at a $50/night lodge on the river (I think all 11 of us are in one room) then get us and hop on airboats to try to shoot wild hogs at first light. I think the bow fishing goes until 1 am, and hog hunting is at 5 am. I have zero idea of what to expect, or if we will live.
Setting this whole thing up has been tough. Dealing with a guy in the backwoods of Louisiana who won't confirm anything, put anything in writing, or even answer if any of it's legal. We did Google him and found two police records for arrests for illegal activity so who knows. Now we've had weird messages that one boat may be broken, another saying we're all set, no clue on time for pick up, or what the cost even is. We are literally renting a van in New Orleans, filling it up with beer, skoal and bug spray, and heading into the swamps. They must be licking their chops.
We will report back on Monday if we make it back, but wish us luck. Charlie Moore should get on this train.
Headhunt is still going strong, we are probably doing very few or no sponsors, keeping it very simple and back to the roots of just having a fun community tourney that we don't take too seriously. Until we lose. Keep spreading the word, and let us know if anyone has any good reports on the fishing.
